Feed the Future

Feed the Future, a USAID strategic initiative, addresses hunger and promotes food security in regions across the world by supporting inclusive economic growth and investment in agriculture. The program works with host country national organizations, the United Nations, and USDA to strengthen government and private sector capacity, improve trade and market access to agriculture value chains, foster sustainable agriculture practices, and improve market information systems.

The 2011-2017 Central America Feed the Future Strategy funded four core implementation mechanisms, and mandated Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) at key points in the execution of this complex program.

MetaMetrics conceptualized and developed the Monitoring and Evaluation design, including data collection tools, methods, and data sources, for the mid-term and final performance evaluations of the Central America Feed the Future initiative. MetaMetrics began with a workshop with Mission staff to establish a common understanding of M&E concepts and to kick off co-design of the evaluation plan products. We then worked with USAID staff to design the evaluation plan, and to develop an Evaluation Scope of Work.

In addition to these two deliverables, MetaMetrics supported USAID in strengthening Mission staff capacity in evaluation practices. MetaMetrics also produced learning deliverables, including capturing and sharing lessons learned, and recommendations on M&E topics for the internal learning center to support USAID staff capacity to plan and manage evaluations and baseline studies, and follow best practices when designing studies for a complex portfolio.
